about

‘Coaltrain to Cape Town’ was originally launched in 1994 in Perth, Western Australia but has only now become available online. The music features guitar styles influenced by the music of Zimbabwe, where I grew up, as well as influences from Madagascar, South Africa, West Africa and Western Australia where I have lived since 1988. This was my first full length recording and was developed and produced while I was performing, touring and recording with the ‘Sundiata Marimba Band’ (1992-1997). The band played mostly marimba and mbira music from Zimbabwe, especially compositions of Dumisani Maraire.
